Slow Cooked Maple Onion Beef Brisket is a mouthwatering dish featuring tender beef brisket cooked slowly with a savory-sweet combination of maple syrup and caramelized onions. Mix together the salt, pepper, and Maple Sugar. Pat dry the brisket, rub with olive oil, then press the maple sugar mixture onto all sides.
Preheat your oven to 350 degrees F
Set a large ovenproof saucepan over medium heat, lightly coat the bottom with olive oil.
Set the brisket into the hot saucepan and cook for 4-5 minutes on each side, allowing it to brown but not burn. Remove from the pan and set aside.
Add the onion and garlic to the pan and cook, stirring, until they begin to soften. Add the tomato paste and cook for an additional minute. Add a tablespoon of oil if needed when cooking the onion and garlic.
Add the beef stock and vinegar, scrape off and stuck bits off the surface of the pan.
Add the brisket and any juices to the pan, add the water and bring to a gentle simmer.
Cover with a tight fitting lid and transfer to a center rack in the oven.
Cook for 3 hours, turning the brisket over once halfway through cook time.
When the brisket is fall apart tender remove it from the pan and set on a serving tray, shred the meat with forks to break it up gently. Add back into the sauce or pour the sauce overtop for serving.
